Hello, Fellow bloggers as I conclude this blog and what I have learned about the subject if breastfeeding is better for your baby I have a lot of uncertainties about my topic still but I have also grown and learned from this as well as a mother.
Some questions I still wonder about are why do we shame mothers who formula feed their children. My research has shown me that many women are not capable of feeding their baby breast milk due to low milk supply or not being able to make any at all. My fellow classmate Patricia has pointed out as well why don’t mothers consider going to a breast milk bank and buying some from parents who have donated some. Until Patricia just pointed it out in my comments, I had no clue about breast milk banks and donated breast milk. It makes me want to go down and give some myself now. What I want to argue about my topic now that I know what I know now is why do we shame women for breastfeeding when it's society that is shoving down our throats we need to breastfeed. You hear of the people saying that woman is nasty for feeding her baby in
public and how she needs to go to the bathroom to do that, but we tell them breast is best the thing that makes me upset about my subject is the fact that woman gets judged either way. We need to leave a woman alone and let them raise their babies how they want, and this is including their food choice. The way I see it, is if the baby is healthy and has a full belly it’s not breast is best, or the bottle is beast…. It’s called FEED IS BEST!!!
We as mothers need to have each other’s back and let society know we have each other’s back and are not going to put up with anyone’s judgment anymore. I want to thank you for reading my blog and getting more insist on feeding your baby and what is best.
Today is another fantastic day for blogging. I was able to find a fascinating article on Breastfeeding through the online library database. The article is called Breastfeeding- Natural is Beast."Breastfeeding - Natural Is Best [column]." Africa News Service, 3 Aug. 2015. Opposing Viewpoints in Context, Accessed 11 Apr. 2017. In this article, I have read many of the same points I have been going from and that I have seen in a lot of other ones the benefit of breastfeeding and why we should do it. According to this article just like many of my others I have read breastfeeding is the complete supplement for your child. Meaning that it has all the nutrients your baby will need. Now I will agree with this article on it SAVES MONEY!!!!! YES!!!
I love that about breastfeeding. That is probably the main reason I do it myself. Formula cost 25 dollars for one container a baby goes through about two of those a week that’s 50 dollars a week, and if you times that by four, you're spending 200 dollars a month. And if we times that by 12 that is twenty-four hundred dollars a year! I love to save where I can. So, I also read in this article Breastfeeding-Natural is best, that it helps with being overweight. That I can’t say, I’m 100% sold on. Let’s refer to the other findings I have found throughout my research, and if we did, we would see there is no clear answer on this. I believe this is just how people feel and their opinion on and this one cannot be proven. My opinion on this is we are what we eat. If we eat unhealthy foods, we are more likely to be unhealthy and overweight. This article also goes on to talking about what benefits for mother and more for baby, But I want to consider more about formula feeding. What is the problem? Why are women who formula feed so looked down upon? So I did a little research on NPR radio page, the article is called: I'm An Obstetrician And I Failed At Breast-Feeding, This woman is amazing she talks about how hard she tried to breastfeed and couldn't. She found out that she was struggling with breastfeeding due to not having a low milk supply and the baby not being able to latch correctly. Her baby was becoming dehydrated and was losing weight because of these issues. From reading this article, it makes me wonder why we judge women who don't breastfeed. Some women can't, and it's not their fault, and sometimes to help a baby survive we need to formula feed are babies. I think at this point we should not judge without knowing the mother's full story. I stand with breastfeeding mother's, and I also stand with mothers who formula feed. We as mother's need to have one another's backs. here is also a video I am including on formula feeding and why you should not be ashamed to do it.
Hello Everyone, who has been so kind to consider my Breastfeeding topic. Today I am going to go over some more fascinating articles I have found on this breastfeeding vs. formula question. I have recently read an article on Med Line Plus website called Breastfeeding VS. Formula feedingIn this it article, talks about both sides of this argument. Once again I have found it saying that breastfeeding is what most Dr.’s recommends. Go figure, we all know the news these days, and social media that Dr.’s is cramming their thoughts on this matter down are throats. In this article, it has many reasons why breastfeeding is best: breast milk has all the nutrients your baby needs and the antibodies that help your baby from getting sick. Also, prevent your baby from getting allergies, it also says that it can lower a baby’s risk of getting SIDS.
I as a mother worries a lot about SIDS
with my 5-month-old so seeing something like this brought up as a preventive makes me want to breastfeed even more. One last big stand out topic it also helps a mother out to in life. It says that breastfeeding can help the mother prevent getting breast cancer and ovarian cancer. When they throw out finding like this that can help my child and me, it does want me to continue to do this for my son and me. Now going into the formula feeding benefits, if a mother is unable to breastfeed according to this article you have some advantages as well too. You can get around the clock help with feeding because we all know new boron’s want to eat every few hours, and with a schedule like that, you may not get much sleep so it can be dangerous to the mother.
The last one the article says as a benefit for formula feeding you may not have to feed your baby as much. As a parent, I know this all too well. I had felt like with breastfeeding when my son first arrived I was always feeding, but once I was able to pump enough, it was easier to figure out how much he was finally eating.
Breastfeeding Is Beneficial For Babies, But It May Not Make Them Smarter so this article is stating something completely different it is by author Maya Rhodan. She goes on to explain that breastfeeding may be beneficial for the baby but there is no proof it makes them smarter. She shares that there are still many health benefits for mother and baby, but that’s probably mostly about it when it comes to breastfeeding. So, if I am going to synthesis on both articles here we go:
Similarities in 2 sources/authors’ views
Differences in 2 sources/authors’ views
They both talk about the health benefits breastfeeding has.
My first source shows that there can be links to having a smarter child while breastfeeding.
It helps mother reduce her risks of breastfeeding and formula feeding.
My first article shows how breastfeeding can help lower the risk of sides and my second one says that breastfeeding only has health benefits
I feel as though these two authors would say to one another that we may agree on a couple of things, but the research we have found compared to you is a bit different. I believe they would also ask to see each other’s findings, and compare. If I had to put myself in between these two sources, I would go more with the second article in the time's magazine. I agree breastfeeding can help with many health benefits, but I don’t agree with making children smarter. A child excels based on their upbringing in my opinion and how they learn. Telling a mother their child won’t be smart because they were formula feed is not OK it’s just another way for people to bring each other down on things that are not true.
Hello Everyone,
Today I am exploring a little bit with the CDC and what the CDC inputs are on breastfeeding and the benefits it may have. So, the CDC has this thing called the breastfeeding report card. It goes into the background of breastfeeding and why it’s important. According to this “Report Card “ babies who start out breastfeeding is at about 79% which is amazing and be time children are six months the percentage drops down to 49%. But what I am trying to find out is why do woman choose to go a different route a few months in. Is it too hard…… Most likely no is it because mothers don’t want to do what’s best for their children …? No! Far from the truth but a lot of people love to shame women over everything they choose to do with their body. What does help with breastfeeding though is having an amazing support group? Finding hospitals with lactation consultants is hard. Where I had my son, they had a fantastic nursing staff for help and also a lactation office with monthly support groups to help support them along the way here down below is an image from the CDC website showing hospitals that use the ten steps to successful breastfeeding throughout the years.
Another one of my sources talks a bit more about formula feeding it is a article time magizine called Sibling Study Shows Little Difference Between Breast- and Bottle-Feeding it is by Alexandra Sifferlin date released was February 25th, 2014. It is displaying data from multiple sibling studies showing there was not much of a difference in body weight, math skills or even vocabulary. So is Breast the best. Or is it like I said just a social norm where mothers shame
parents. But even after all these studies are done it is more likely they will endorse Brest feeding over bottle feeding. My option on this is I do believe Brest milk has more benefits to a child’s development and I also think a child gets more immune boosters, so they are sick a lot less than formula feed children.
FUN FACT: I talked about in my first post something called eaping. Eaping. Is where you pump fresh Brest milk and storing it instead of feeding straight from the Brest. A lot more moms are doing it as an alternative to Brest feeding due to latching issues the baby may have.
So since becoming a mother, I have become quite curious about whether breastfeeding is what is best for my baby? I mean let's face it we live in a word where we need to do what is considered social norms and what society thinks we should do. I guess the reason this topic has meaning to me is that now that I'm a mother I want to do what's best for my child. But did you know there is also another alternative to breastfeeding and formula? It's Called Eaping. But I will get a little more into that later down the road. My main questions about this topic are why is breast milk better for babies than formula if that's what you agree with? Also, why do we put so much pressure on mothers who are already stressed as it is to shove breastfeeding down their throats? Also if its such a big deal and we should all do it then why do we judge a woman who is out in public doing it and telling them to get a bottle instead? I guess you could say I'm just curious about the benefits of it and why it is a big no no to formula feed your baby. I will be doing some research on the topic, and right now I'm in the middle of what side I agree with because from social media thus far has shown me the perks of breastfeeding and formula feeding and why breastfeeding may not be possible for every woman. I feel like be the end of this I will have picked a side, or maybe I could be split down the middle and agree on both. I am going to include this video about this subject because I feel like it has some useful information on this topic and it shows both sides of the argument.
