Breastfeeding compared to the "Bottle"

Hello Everyone, who has been so kind to consider my Breastfeeding topic. Today I am going to go over some more fascinating articles I have found on this breastfeeding vs. formula question. I have recently read an article on Med Line Plus website called Breastfeeding VS. Formula feeding  In this it  article, talks about both sides of this argument. Once again I have found it saying that breastfeeding is what most Dr.’s recommends. Go figure, we all know the news these days, and social media that Dr.’s is cramming their thoughts on this matter down are throats. In this article, it has many reasons why breastfeeding is best: breast milk has all the nutrients your baby needs and the antibodies that help your baby from getting sick. Also, prevent your baby from getting allergies, it also says that it can lower a baby’s risk of getting SIDS.

I as a mother worries a lot about SIDS
with my 5-month-old so seeing something like this brought up as a preventive makes me want to breastfeed even more.  One last big stand out topic it also helps a mother out to in life. It says that breastfeeding can help the mother prevent getting breast cancer and ovarian cancer. When they throw out finding like this that can help my child and me, it does want me to continue to do this for my son and me. Now going into the formula feeding benefits, if a mother is unable to breastfeed according to this article you have some advantages as well too. You can get around the clock help with feeding because we all know new boron’s want to eat every few hours, and with a schedule like that, you may not get much sleep so it can be dangerous to the mother.
The last one the article says as a benefit for formula feeding you may not have to feed your baby as much. As a parent, I know this all too well. I had felt like with breastfeeding when my son first arrived I was always feeding, but once I was able to pump enough, it was easier to figure out how much he was finally eating.

Breastfeeding Is Beneficial For Babies, But It May Not Make Them Smarter  so this article is stating something completely different it is by author  Maya Rhodan. She goes on to explain that breastfeeding may be beneficial for the baby but there is no proof it makes them smarter. She shares that there are still many health benefits for mother and baby, but that’s probably mostly about it when it comes to breastfeeding. So, if I am going to synthesis on both articles here we go:

Similarities in 2 sources/authors’ views
Differences in 2 sources/authors’ views
They both talk about the health benefits breastfeeding has.
My first source shows that there can be links to having a smarter child while breastfeeding.
It helps mother reduce her risks of breastfeeding and formula feeding.
My first article shows how breastfeeding can help lower the risk of sides and my second one says that breastfeeding only has health benefits

I feel as though these two authors would say to one another that we may agree on a couple of things, but the research we have found compared to you is a bit different. I believe they would also ask to see each other’s findings, and compare. If I had to put myself in between these two sources, I would go more with the second article in the time's magazine. I agree breastfeeding can help with many health benefits, but I don’t agree with making children smarter. A child excels based on their upbringing in my opinion and how they learn. Telling a mother their child won’t be smart because they were formula feed is not OK it’s just another way for people to bring each other down on things that are not true.

  1. I never realized that breastfeeding could be so beneficial to the mother. I knew there was strong evidence that a baby can be much healthier when they are breastfed but to be preventative for a mother in terms of cancer is outstanding. What exactly did the author have to say about these findings? How exactly are they setting up these study groups? I am just curious as to how they were able to definitively link breastfeeding to the cancer. Also, what is the formula company currently doing to provide the need antibodies that are in a mother's natural milk?

  2. Hi, April,
It was fascinated to read your post, and I was interested in several points, for example: I did not know that breastfeeding might prevent breast cancer. Also, I am surprised at the connection between breastfeeding and child’s intelligence. I always was thinking that genetics and an environment have a major impact on the development and inelegancy of a child. I would add to your post the description of the experiment, based on the author made such conclusions. I definitely agree with you that is not nice to say to moms that her child is not enough smart because of formula, especially it is not true. My son is 18 years old almost and he is ordinary in the school; arthouse, I did not use any formula. On the other hand, Steven Jobs was adopted and fed formula. In fact, he was smarter than many.

  3. Hello April,
I agree with you that breast feeding is best for both mom, and for baby. I disagree with others shaming a mother who decides not to breastfeed. That is so wrong because she is the momma bear. I like how the video points out ways to involve the father in bottle feeding his child; whether the bottle contains pumped breast milk, or baby formula. I never heard of the idea that breastfeeding makes a child smarter. I am glad you addressed this in your blog. Do they have any evidence to back up this claim? Are there support groups available for new moms? I am pleased that your research has reinforced your decision to breast feed. Were there recommendations given by doctors about how long a mother should strive to breast feed for optimal benefits to their baby? I look forward to reading your future posts.

  4. great post I really enjoyed reading it. Personally I think it is healthier to breast feed. I liked that you brought up people shaming mothers for breast feeding I think it is ridiculous even on social media you see pictures of women breast feeding but still covered and peoples comments are horrible and unnecessary.
