breastfeeding and formula feeding are baby still gets what they need to survive!

Hi Class,

Today is another fantastic day for blogging.  I was able to find a fascinating article on Breastfeeding through the online library database. The article is called Breastfeeding- Natural is Beast."Breastfeeding - Natural Is Best [column]." Africa News Service, 3 Aug. 2015. Opposing Viewpoints in Context, Accessed 11 Apr. 2017. In this article, I have read many of the same points I have been going from and that I have seen in a lot of other ones the benefit of breastfeeding and why we should do it. According to this article just like many of my others I have read breastfeeding is the complete supplement for your child. Meaning that it has all the nutrients your baby will need. Now I will agree with this article on it SAVES MONEY!!!!! YES!!!
I love that about breastfeeding. That is probably the main reason I do it myself. Formula cost 25 dollars for one container a baby goes through about two of those a week that’s 50 dollars a week, and if you times that by four, you're spending 200 dollars a month. And if we times that by 12 that is twenty-four hundred dollars a year! I love to save where I can.  So, I also read in this article Breastfeeding-Natural is best, that it helps with being overweight. That I can’t say, I’m 100% sold on. Let’s refer to the other findings I have found throughout my research, and if we did, we would see there is no clear answer on this. I believe this is just how people feel and their opinion on and this one cannot be proven. My opinion on this is we are what we eat. If we eat unhealthy foods, we are more likely to be unhealthy and overweight. This article also goes on to talking about what benefits for mother and more for baby, But I want to consider more about formula feeding. What is the problem? Why are women who formula feed so looked down upon? So I did a little research on NPR radio page, the article is called: I'm An Obstetrician And I Failed At Breast-Feeding, This woman is amazing she talks about how hard she tried to breastfeed and couldn't. She found out that she was struggling with breastfeeding due to not having a low milk supply and the baby not being able to latch correctly. Her baby was becoming dehydrated and was losing weight because of these issues. From reading this article, it makes me wonder why we judge women who don't breastfeed. Some women can't, and it's not their fault, and sometimes to help a baby survive we need to formula feed are babies. I think at this point we should not judge without knowing the mother's full story. I stand with breastfeeding mother's, and I also stand with mothers who formula feed. We as mother's need to have one another's backs. here is also a video I am including on formula feeding and why you should not be ashamed to do it.

  1. Hello April,
I have enjoyed reading all your blog posts. You gained clarity about the different options for moms about feeding their babies. I liked how you enlarged your empathy for mothers who bottle feed because you put yourself in their shoes without judgement. I agree with your idea to provide support to all mothers, and the decisions they make how to feed their child. I was hoping you would have explored breast milk donor banks in your blog. I believe it is less expensive than formula, and a wonderful alternative for mothers who want to, or need to bottle feed. I wonder if manufacturers of baby formula are working toward creating a product that isn’t so expensive, and maintains the nutritional value of more expensive brands?

  2. Hello April,

Another good post on this subject. I never really thought about the cost of formula feeding but you make a great point. It can benefit the wallet as well as the nutrients that the baby receives. I appreciate your take on understanding not every women has the ability to breast feed. It is interesting how society works. There will always be someone who is unhappy or has to be against something, nothing is safe these days haha. The overweight question is a good one, and I like your take on that as well. Is it the person's choices? Is it genetics? Is it the way their parents fed them as a child/baby? I am sure this is like many things where it differs from one person to the next but it sure is an interesting question.

  4. April,

I liked how you looked at both sides I too agree breast feeding is the best and saves you money but you are right some woman who use formula can’t help it me being one of those woman I tried so hard to breast feed and I did for as long as I could unfortunately after a while it just was not an option anymore. I don't think it is right that formula is so expensive when I was in New Jersey formula was approximately 36 dollars per can. I enjoyed reading your post. Your blog has made me think about mother’s options who are not able to breast feed I have heard of woman donating/selling breast milk maybe you could write a little about that.
